Kangy, is Avrie's best bud (a stuffed Kangaroo). Avrie was first introduced to "Kangy" on our road trip to Florida last April. But really... it seems like Kangy has been around for 9,124-infinity days... um FOREVER!
Kangy was gifted to AV by the Battaglia's after seeing her become interested in a stuffed Kangaroo that they had at their house- a twin to the one that Avrie lovingly drags around today.
So why am I blogging about a stuffed Kangaroo... well I just want to highlight the significance of this little Roo and how much she/he/it means to little A. We have no idea as to what makes her love it SO much or WHY... the only thing I can think of is this. When Avrie spotted this Kangaroo at the B's house, she loved it so much and we did everything we could to not let her touch it (as it wasn't ours to play with). THEN when a Kangaroo arrived in the mail a couple of weeks later (just for Avrie, from the B's), we saved it for "something new" to give to Avrie on our (then) upcoming 21 hour road trip.
On her first wake up from a night of car sleeping- we gave "Kangy" to Avrie and.... SHE. WAS. EXCITED! So I guess it was her baby version of being reunited with that very special friend that she knew from a life time ago!?
yeah.... that is what we will go with. Avrie is a stuffed animals girl- she is a girl that loves her "snuggos", fuzzy & soft blankies, touch & feel books, has to have all 12 of her stuffed pals in her crib with her at night and for naps etc... Kangy's tail is wore out because she rubs the end of the tail along her upper lip and her nose as she sucks on her pointer finger. It the sweetest thing ever and at the same time, SO SUPER STRANGE! Then again, I was a blankie girl and did the same thing, rubbed my lip/nose with my blankie. What can I say, we are self soothers. **we do have a rule though: minus a couple of exceptions- Kangy stays in the car when away form home unless we are at grandma & grandpa's house.

AGAIN... why am I writing about this!? BACK TO MY STORY- last week Kangy took a little dip... in the TOILET! It was just water, but still- Eww GROSS gag BARF! Aaron was filling up the bathtub and while I was still upstairs in the kitchen I heard a loud "Oh... NO...." come from the bathroom. I instantly thought it could be one of two things; A. Aaron's phone fell into the water or B. Avrie pooped in the tub again BUT... Aaron yelled to me "time for Kangy to FINALLY go in the wash!"
THIS, my friends, was a PIVOTAL moment! I have been TERRIFIED to wash little Kangy. For many reasons. Reasons being that; there is NO OTHER KANGY to replace the REAL Kangy. Kangy is a Kohls Cares item and once they are gone, they are gone gone for good! I had no idea that I should have been running to the store for a back up while they were still around. Another reason for the lack there of washing... I didn't want to ruin Kangy- I didn't want her fur to get all hard and mangy and I didn't want the stuffing to get all funky & wore out.
[not so bad after all! so fresh and so clean clean!]
ANYWAY, I had no time to think & there was no more avoiding this, IN THE WASH SHE WENT! I put her in a linen bag on the "hand washables" setting- low agitation and dried her in the dryer, still in the bag with no heat. It took two dryer cycles and a session out by the woodstove but she came out good as new! And... Avrie didn't even seem to mind that she was "missing" for about an hour and a half, before bedtime! I was shocked. After the dryer I put her to bed with Kangy and as soon as she was asleep I stole Kangy and set her out by the fire to dry completely. Once she was DRY DRY (around 2am) I set her back into Avrie's crib so Kangy would be there to greet her in the morning. ;)
SO... I guess you could say Avrie would and will survive without Kangy someday! I'm just not going to rush it...

I had a 'binkie' (baby blanket) that was my everything growing up! I still had it in college. Tate made me put it away when we started dating. I have it stored away to give it to my lil' girl someday. Love it so much and it's still in great condition. Knitted by my mama! Love these photos of Avrie...so adorable and glad to hear that Kangy made it through the wash!
I loved reading about how Kangy become Avrie's best bed. I'm so glad she survived the washing machine! E's favorite is a dog from Ikea. It has yet to be washed because I really don't think it's going to hold up.
This is such a sweet post, Andrea :) It's so cute how Kangy is such a huge part if Avrie's life. Alexa used to have a little bull-dog beanie baby that she named RUBY that she carried around forever - she couldn't go anywhere without her. Daycare even knew how special this little pup was to her. She still has Ruby, but has outgrown needing to have her at all times. Makes me sad. Lilli still loves her blankie, tho!! :)
So glad Kangy is okay!!!
So cute!! I never had an item when I was younger that I was attched to but my for my sister it was a Woody doll from Toy story.
Aww! So sweet! Aubrey has never really been attached to one thing in particular. She loves having all her dolls/animals with her but she's really starting to love her Princess Aurora (Sleeping Beauty) doll the most. We'll see if that changes- Last month it was a Beanie Baby Winnie The Pooh doll. :)
This is so cute! Azalea is just starting to get "into" stuffed animals. A doggy and a koala that she sleeps with every night. They haven't been upgraded to going everywhere with her yet. haha.
